Samay Cuji Gualinga is a Kichwa Indigenous woman, born in the Province of Sucumbio -Lagoagrio in Ecuador. She practices traditional face painting and hair care. Samay is also a singer and composer of Amazonian indigenous music with her band Samay Taky.
Samay has a vast knowledge of medicinal plants and likes to share her
ancestral knowledge.
She focuses on indigenous education in her community and walks her land to share her indigenous teachings, cultural education, traditional healing practices, and music. The Kichwa people of the Ecuadorian Amazon are known for protecting sacred places and the teachings of traditional medicine. As a Kichwa woman and activist, Samay raises awareness about deforestation and the invasion of her people and family's ancestral lands due to the presence of oil, mining, and logging companies in the Amazon.
